Step into the worlds of Westeros and Middle-Earth this winter with a celebration of the music from Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, some of the most popular on-screen creations of all time. Scores from the fantasy series and adventure films are to be performed live by a symphony orchestra and choir on December 6th at Warwick Arts Centre.
The HBO hit series Game of Thrones, which at the height of its popularity averaged 32 million viewers per episode, is based on the 8-volume series of books by George R. R. Martin and follows the power struggle for the iron throne among the houses of Westeros. A symphony orchestra will bring to life the Game of Thrones soundtrack compiled by Grammy nominated score composer and student of Hans Zimmer, Ramin Djawadi, known for his work on the 2008 Marvel film Iron Man.
As well as the Game of Thrones soundtrack, the symphony orchestra will also perform the scores from the original trilogy of The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Directed by Peter Jackson, the series of films are among the highest grossing of all time, winning a combined 17 out of the 30 Academy Awards they were nominated for.
Composed by Howard Shore, the soundtrack from the fantasy series features music of unparalleled power. The success of the The Lord of the Rings’ soundtrack led Shore to also score Peter Jackson’s follow-up prequels to Lord of the Rings; The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, and The Battle of the Five Armies.
The show comes off the back of two sell out shows in previous years at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall and London’s Palladium where Sci-Fi Bulletin observed, “the audience loved it, some great music”.
