England’s World Cup woes were concluded as heavily un-fancied Bangladesh sent them packing, knocking them out of the World Cup with a sensational 15-run Pool A victory at the Adelaide Oval, seeing them make the quarter-finals and possibly facing defending champions India in the next round.
This was Bangladesh's third win over England in their last four one-day internationals, including the two-wicket success in Chittagong during the previous World Cup four years ago.
Set 276 to win, England were bowled out for 260 despite Jos Buttler's 52-ball 65, while Rubel Hossain claimed 4-53.
"I feel very proud," said Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who led his side superbly in the field.
"Mahmudullah scored his first hundred for Bangladesh, and Mushfiqur was also brilliant at the end.
I'm really happy for all those people back home who have wanted us to make it this far.
We had a good combination today, especially with the seven batsmen. They showed their guts today, and the bowlers then did a very good job."
England skipper Eoin Morgan said: “It was pretty poor to be knocked out of the World Cup. It’s unbelievably disappointing. I'm totally gutted.
There’ll be an inquest over the next few weeks as to what happened and what went wrong. Then we'll go from there."
The victory sees Bangladesh advance past the first round for only the second occasion. It also secured Sri Lanka's place in the last eight, alongside Pool A winners New Zealand and Australia.
England on the other hand will return home after their closing 'dead' league match against Afghanistan in Sydney on Friday.
