As airports continue to `confiscate' millions of pounds worth of cosmetics and toiletries each year, ease the pressure on security airport security (and yourselves) by buying natural or organic ingredients for cosmetics, toiletries and holiday ailments from the local supermarket or farm shop on arrival on holiday.
Silver Travel Advisor's Debbie Marshall said “in the height of the summer holiday season UK airport confiscate up to £11.5 million worth of toiletries and cosmetics each week*. The average value of items confiscated being £23, with one in five Britons having lost toiletries and liquids since the ban was introduced in 2006.”
Silver Travel Advisor suggests travellers should leave liquid toiletries at home and take a trip to the local restaurant or supermarket on arrival and make use of healing properties of natural products such as tomatoes, avocadoes, garlic, honey, lemon and onions.
Debbie Marshall said “A holiday is also a good time to try new things while away from the office, friends and family and it may well be that travellers stick to what's natural on their return home too.”
TIRED SKIN ; to revive tired skin mix a simple homemade skin tonic by combining honey and rose water (ratio 1:10 ).
HEALTHY GLOW; Sliced tomatoes (preferably home grown) rubbed over the face brings out a healthy glow. Soak the pieces in honey for an hour and the effect is even better.
WRINKLES : An apple a day will help keep wrinkles at bay, while caster oil and lemons soften the skin, minimising creases.
CLEAN SKIN : Mix crushed garlic cloves with water and apply to the face with cotton wool.
