Ten members of staff from Medical Diagnostics company the Binding Site have signed up to take part in London 2 Paris: Inspiring the Revolution to raise funds for blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia.
The employees will be joining former England, Wolves and Crystal Palace midfielder and Cure Leukaemia Patron Geoff Thomas and 300 fellow cyclists for the 500km journey to Paris in June.
It is 10 years since Geoff was declared in remission from chronic myeloid leukaemia after treatment from Cure Leukaemia co-founder Professor Charlie Craddock at the Centre for Clinical Haematology (CCH) in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Now Geoff is marking the anniversary by aiming to raise £500,000 from this event to support the CCH and help save the lives of blood cancer patients in the Midlands.
Geoff said, “it is fantastic to have a strong team from The Binding Site for London 2 Paris. I know the great support they have shown for Cure Leukaemia as an official charity partner and I look forward to meeting them on the start line this June!”
The Binding Site has entered its second year as an official charity partner of Cure Leukaemia and the team of cyclists have set a fundraising target of over £16,000, a figure that would be worth £160,000 in potentially life-saving drugs for blood cancer patients in Birmingham.
Chief Executive Charles de Rohan said, “at the Binding Site we are very proud to be able to sponsor our 10 cyclists, who in turn are supporting and promoting Cure Leukaemia, a cause that is close to our hearts. I wish them and all the other participants, the very best in their training ahead of what is sure to be a very memorable – and challenging – trip.”
Limited places are still available for this memorable and fun experience. Well known figures including Geoff’s former Crystal Palace teammates Ian Wright, Mark Bright and John Salako are taking part alongside leukaemia survivor George Lineker and sports presenter Jill Douglas.
Cure Leukaemia’s Head of Corporate Partnerships Jackie Kelly said, “we’ve been delighted with the response for London 2 Paris: Inspiring the Revolution from our key supporters. It is great to see the Binding Site represented by such a strong team and their fundraising efforts will directly help patients battling this terrible disease.”
