A teenager suffering from Lupus is planning a charity skydive in order to raise awareness of the disease.
Lamis Mulgrave, 19, has been suffering from Lupus for most of her life. One of her lifelong dreams is to skydive, however her condition is so severe that her brother, Wayne, will be skydiving on her behalf. Lamis has already raised around £400 with the help of the children’s support website, Tappy Twins.
Tappy Twins creator, Suzanne Skeete has praised Lamis’s determination: “Lamis is an incredible young lady.I asked her last week when was the last time she did something fun and she couldn’t remember. I asked her what she wanted to do more than anything and she said a skydive and donate money to a lupus charity. ”
Lamis has won admiration for her positive attitude towards her condition. Though she is constantly in pain, she never complains or moans and has been described as an inspiration. In order to further raise awareness of Lupus, Lamis is also in the process of writing an informative blog and forum where people can access information about the condition and to share their experiences.
Lupus is a poorly understood illness which affects around 15 000 people in the UK. Symptoms vary but can range from rashes caused by sunlight, headaches and muscular pain to more serious symptoms such as kidney problems and depression. Donations from Lamis’s skydive will go towards raising awareness of the condition and how it affects people.
The skydive will take place on April 4 at Hinton Airfield, Brackley, near the border between Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Buckinghamshire. Donations can be made through Lupus UK or through Tappy Twins.
