Europe has set ambitious climate change targets. At COP21 this year, a world-wide agreement for new targets to cut CO2 emissions is expected. These goals will affect all aspects of the economy, society and have an wide impact on people's lives.
It will require far-reaching changes to the way we work, live and play. Increasingly, practitioners operating in a range of sectors are finding that these changes are already taking place.
This 'Supporting the transition to a low carbon economy' workshop,on June 8, offers participants an understanding of the approaches to a transition. It is aimed at individuals and organisations that are not traditionally engaged with the low carbon agenda, but those working in this area will also gain new insights. It will provide a range of practical tools that will allow individuals to consider how they and their organisations can act strategically in this wide reaching transition. It will demonstrate that the shift to a low carbon economy is as much an opportunity as a challenge.
- To provide a clear introduction to the low carbon agenda, transitions and why systems innovation is crucial.
- To unlock the transitions tool box and give participants an insight into the key methods that they can use to promote systems thinking and practice
- As an interactive workshop, where participants will identify the challenges and barriers they face and work in groups to overcome them
At the end of the workshop, participants will be better equipped to tackle the issues of climate change in their organisations and to inform others on how to move towards the low carbon economy. It will also provide extensive networking opportunities at Innovation Birmingham Campus.
The course will be run by Jon Bloomfield, Dave Green and Stuart Bowles, who have extensive knowledge of low carbon applications and approaches within a regional and European context.
