Award winning stand-up comedian, Shazia Mirza, will be headlining an East Meets West themed charity fundraising event in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice. The Birmingham-born star will be taking part in a gala fundraising evening of entertainment for the Birmingham-based hospice in a showcase of food, fashion, music, dance as well as comedy.
Celebrating the wide mix of cultures that live alongside each other in the city, the event, on Saturday June 6, is at the CSN International Exhibition and Conference Centre on Highgate Road, with Louise Arnold from Acorns, saying: “We are delighted that Shazia has agreed to support us. She’ll make a great headline act for what promises to be a fantastic evening of entertainment.
The children and families, staff and volunteers at Acorns come from a wide range of cultural and religious backgrounds. We work hard to ensure we respect and meet their different and individual needs as part of our provision of specialist palliative care.
The East Meet West theme has been chosen to recognise and celebrate this diversity while helping raise vital funds to support our services.”
Acorns provides babies, children and young people aged 0 – 18 years who have life limiting or life threatening conditions and associated complex needs with a network of specialist palliative nursing care and support.
A holistic service meets the needs of both the children and young people and their families, including the bereaved. This includes short break provision; emergency and end of life care; therapeutic and psychosocial support; sibling services; and family support. For more information visit www.acorns.org.uk
