A small Turkish harbour town is emerging as a genuine 'gastronomic capital' of coastal Turkey and is this year hosting he superb 'Lycian Food Festival' to showcase its talented team of chefs.
The Festival is set to take place in Kalkan on Turkey's turquoise coast on Wednesday 3rd June and will be located at the picturesque harbour. The day will be a colourful celebration of food with a range of entertainment for all visitors to enjoy including live music and dancing. The school band will also play to entertain the crowds. Kalkan's finest chefs will be taking part, showcasing their culinary skills and producing tasty cuisine from their temporary al fresco kitchens. A friendly Masterchef style 'cook off' will also take place with both Turks and foreigners taking the place of John Torode and Greg Wallace as judges.
For its small size, picture postcard Kalkan has more than 100 restaurants, that's more per square metre than any other location on Turkey's Turquoise Coast. In Kalkan, in addition to the established eateries along the attractive harbourside, many are often tucked away down side streets and can't be seen at ground level as they boast al fresco dining on picture perfect roof terraces with panoramic sea views.
Commenting, Sue Flynn who owns Kalkan's holiday home website www.kalkanmagic.com said: "Kalkan on Turkey's Turquoise coast has long been a foodie's secret haven but now the word is out and it is attracting those who want to sample top quality cuisine. In the evening, Kalkan comes alive with the smell of exquisite fresh food and twinkling lights as the sun goes down. Convivial chatter of diners enjoying excellent quality food can be heard throughout the village, interspersed by the evocative call to prayer echoing around the surrounding mountains. The standard of cuisine is exquisite and the atmosphere sublime."
