Councillor Barbara Price, who has been a Rowley councillor for 16 years, is the new Mayor of Sandwell. She has chosen Acorns Children’s Hospice as her charity.
Councillor Price, who lives in Mackmillan Road, Rowley Regis, has husband Councillor Robert Price, as consort. Councillor Julie Webb is deputy mayor with her daughter Nicola Webb as consort.
The new mayor and deputy mayor were invested at a ceremony at Sandwell Council House, in Oldbury.
Since becoming a member of the council Councillor Price, who represents the Rowley ward was deputy mayor to Councillor Linda Horton in 2013, mayoress to her husband Councillor Robert Price in 2008 and deputy mayor in 2001 to former council leader Tarsem King. She was also Rowley town lead for five years.
Councillor Barbara Price, Mayor of Sandwell, said: “I have decided to support Acorns Children’s Hospice as my charity for the year. None of us would want to go through the heartache of seeing their children with a terminal illness and so the work this charity does for both children and their families is so important.
“I am really looking forward to going around the borough to meet the many people who do so much work for their communities and to raise money for such a good cause,” she said.
