Using a specially constructed, counterweighted lift that allows the dancers to move as if in zero-gravity, Corey Baker Dance took everyone to space, during lunch, with their interpretation of ZeroG – their exhibition, which influences the movements of stars and space, which brought unified gasps of “Wow,” “Oh My Word” and “I Don’t Believe It,” But, those who were there just, simply had to… believe it, that is!
And then, for the UK’s second city, Second Cities was front and centre as one of the main highlights, on the main stage, on yet another packed day of great music, fun, families and first class Brummie entertainment during the day’s contribution to Birmingham Festival 23. And, as the five-piece emo band belted out their message of strength in diversity, with their strong and powerful ear-wrenching blend metal and pop punk, with uplifting vocals, the locally based band was one of many of the performances who again kept an ever-growing Centenary Square turn-out dancing, smiling and, yet, thinking.
And this, following-on from what came just before, was another example of how great and diverse the musical talent is in the centre of the country. The Live Vibe Takeover – Passing the Baton was the act that preceded Second Cities as they brought their youthful, exuberant high energy for all to see, as the music, dance and singing collective was proof that the world, as we could imagine it tomorrow, can only be a happy, loving, creative union that’s representation of a happy, loving and creative Brum. It was all there to be seen!
It was then time for the BBC Asian Network take over, showcasing the very best of new and upcoming British Asian talent from Birmingham, with plenty of high energy and mood boosting Bollywood, Bhangra, and Asian beats to get everybody motivated and uplifted.
