Proposed plans for the new Erdington Leisure Centre have been shared as part of a public consultation process. The £6.5 million investment will include a six-lane 25m swimming pool, learner pool, workout studio for classes, gym, sauna and steam facilities, changing facilities plus a community room. The new building will be located on Orphanage Road in Erdington and work will start in spring 2016.
Birmingham City Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Ian Ward, said: “Despite the budgetary restraints we face, the plans for Erdington’s new leisure centre show how we can work with partner organisations to provide facilities that are both cost effective and modern. Through this project we can continue to support and encourage people to remain active and pursue a healthy lifestyle.”
Brian Taylor, spokesperson for the Birmingham Community Leisure Trust, added: “We are delighted to share the proposed plans for this fantastic new leisure centre. It will be an important landmark for the local community in Erdington and will meet the health and fitness needs of Birmingham residents who live and work around the centre.”
It is anticipated the centre will open to the public in summer 2017 and is the first new build that the partnership between Birmingham City Council and the Birmingham Community Leisure Trust will deliver to the city.
