Green energy company Ecotricity has launched a competition to find four young green visionaries to take to the stage at the WOMAD festival– and each young environmentalist is to get a celebrity mentor to help them deliver their ideas.
Ecotricity, who will once again host a stage at the WOMAD festival this year, is asking school pupils aged 11-16 to send in their ideas about how to achieve a Green Britain, with the four winners delivering their plan at the festival at Charlton Park, Malmesbury on 26th July.
The winners will be mentored on the day by one of four industry experts, including actor and electric car fanatic, Robert Llewellyn, BBC wildlife television presenter, Simon King, Founder of the Duke of Cambridge Organic Pub, Geetie Singh-Watson, and Ecotricity founder, Dale Vince OBE.
Robert Llewellyn said: “It’s about time we let those in the know – the next generation who are already pretty clued up about the reasons we’re damaging our planet and what we need to do about this – be given centre stage.
“I’m looking forward to mentoring my ‘Young Green Transport’ enthusiast, who’ll hopefully have lots of great ideas on how we can travel more sustainably. Good on Ecotricity and WOMAD for hosting this – and good luck to all who enter the competition!”
Children aged 11-16 are invited to send in their ideas one or more of the following categories:
- Energy
- Food
- Transport
- Nature
To be in with the chance of being one of four winners, pupils can either email a video, written piece, or a recording of their ideas for how Britain can become greener by changing our attitudes on one of these topics.
