Alzheimer's Society supporters in their hundreds will be stepping out to honour or remember a loved one with dementia at the charity’s Memory Walk, which takes place at Coventry’s War Memorial Park today (Sunday 24 September, 2023) from 10am.
Money raised from the event will help fund faster diagnosis and ongoing support through some of the hardest and most frightening times people affected by dementia have faced, as well as funding vital research. The commitment of those taking part has never been more important, with one in three people born today in the UK going on to develop dementia in their lifetime.
Janice Le Tellier, Regional Manager for Alzheimer’s Society in the West Midlands, said: “There are more than 84,000 people living with dementia in the West Midlands, so there has never been a better time to gather your support network and take part in the Coventry Memory Walk.
“The buzz of the crowd, quiet moments of remembrance, the hug of a stranger who gets it – whatever you feel on the day, you won't be alone. And every pound raised by incredible supporters will help improve the lives of everyone living with dementia both now and in the future.
“So, whether you walk as one or walk with many at Coventry on Sunday, it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate and remember all those affected by dementia and help fund vital support and research.” Hundreds of supporters have already registered to take part in Coventry Memory Walk, which is suitable for all ages and abilities and is free to sign up.
Participants can also opt to organise a walk of their own at a time and location of their choice during Autumn 2023 and will receive a fundraising pack and T-shirt.
