With Birmingham City Council under considerable financial strain, and as such, transferring some of its buildings into community ownership, Laurel Road Community Sports Centre is considered to be one of the best centres in Birmingham.
So it’s no mean feat that Olive Branch 2, a Community Interest Company beat off many other potential organisations to acquire this jewel in the crown.
With its top of the range facilities, enviable grounds including football pitches used weekly by Aston Villa FC, a bowling green and children’s play area, Laurel Road, in Handsworth, is available for hire by the community for weddings, parties, christenings and sports tournaments.
The Centre has already been used by local groups and is partnering with local schools and colleges to provide much needed health and wellbeing programmes.
