The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) has announced Perry Barr Residential Scheme as the winner of the Award for Excellence in Planning for Communities for large schemes and Joshua Singh of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council as the Young Planner of the Year at the Awards for Planning Excellence 2023.
The Perry Barr Residential Scheme, submitted by Birmingham City Council, Arcadis, and Arup, is a fantastic example of urban growth and a catalyst for change in the city, demonstrating innovation in planning and delivery. Judges were highly impressed by this planner-led scheme and their use of modern and creative ways to engage a wider audience. Their methods were simple but extremely effective and would benefit all projects.
Joshua Singh’s enthusiasm, passion, and tenacity in making a difference to Sandwell residents and businesses is inspiring making him an ideal exemplar for future young planners. Judges commented that Joshua’s outstanding commitment and passion are clearly demonstrated in his innovative work in regeneration and enforcement. As a role model for future Young Planners, he will benefit the profession and the communities he works within.
Now in its 46th year, the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence showcase and celebrate the best plans, people and projects. The awards recognise and reward the brightest talent in the profession; the most outstanding plans, projects and people helping to transform economies, environments, and communities.
