A new study of 35 Christmas markets across the UK has revealed that Birmingham is one of the best.
cinch, the faff-free way to buy a car online, has looked at TikTok popularity, average hotel costs, predicted days of snowfall and market duration to determine which are the best Christmas markets to visit this year for a festive road trip.
Key Findings:
- Manchester is crowned the best Christmas market in the UK, followed by Edinburgh and Liverpool.
- Birmingham finishes overall in 6th place, beating the likes of Hyde Park (Winter Wonderland).
- #birminghamchristmasmarkets is the 6th most viewed on TikTok, with over 2400000 views.
- The average cost of an overnight weekend stay in Birmingham is £168.47 during December.
- Birmingham markets last 53 days, making it the 4th longest of the markets in the study.
Methodology:
Duration of Christmas market: Compiled official opening and closing dates for major Christmas markets across the UK to calculate the total number of days each market is open.
TikTok views: Use the TikTok app to pull view counts for the most relevant hashtag associated with each Christmas market.
Chance of snow: Gathered weather data via Weather Atlas around the number of days of snowfall in December within the location where each market is located. This was then divided by the number of days in December to calculate a percentage chance of snowfall.
For locations that could not be found, the closest suitable location was used. Average hotel cost: Sourced via Trivago to find the nightly rate for a one-night weekend stay December (09/12/2023 - 10/12/2023) for 3-star+ hotels located within 5 miles of each Christmas market to determine the typical overnight stay cost.
