The highly anticipated 284 Excellence Film Competition is set to take place on November 19th at UPs Cineplex.
This exciting event will feature six talented filmmakers competing for a chance to win $8,500 in cash and prizes. The 284 Excellence Film Competition aims to promote and celebrate the art of filmmaking in the Virgin Islands.
Each filmmaker accepted the challenge to produce a short film, showcasing their creativity and storytelling skills. Commenting on the competition, an excited Natalie Hodge, BVI Film Commissioner said: “The BVI community should not miss out on this incredible opportunity to witness the talent and creativity of the British Virgin Islands' filmmakers.
“Join us at UPs Cineplex on November 19th at 6 p.m. for the 284 Excellence Film Competition.” The Red Carpet event promises to be a glamorous affair. Attendees can expect a night of entertainment and excitement as they witness the screening of these exceptional short films.
Filmmakers will compete for various awards, including Best Director, Best Soundtrack, Best Editing, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Audience Fan Favourite, Best Short Documentary, Neil Blyden Memorial Award for Cinematography, and the Rhodni A. Skelton Award for Best Film. The winners will be selected by a panel of industry professional judges, ensuring a fair and unbiased evaluation of the films.
The entries for the competition include Three Little Wishes a fantasy film by Emmanuel Phillips, A Slice of BVI Culture a documentary by Mia Lennard and Dean Greenaway, Dove’s Little Secret a comedy/drama by Dwayne Vanterpool, Crack of Dawn a documentary by Camroy Peters, Surreal a thriller by Naudia Turnbull, and Dear Home, I’ll Miss You a documentary by Melany Payano.
A production of the BVI Film Commission, the 284 Excellence Film Competition is made possible by the generous support of sponsors, including the National Bank of the Virgin Islands, Ayana's New Beginnings, YASH BVI, Sisters Plan It and The Dressing Room BVI. Their contributions have helped to make this event a reality and provide the filmmakers with valuable resources and opportunities.
The competition will be hosted by the charismatic Charis Hoyte, who will guide the audience through an unforgettable cinematic experience.
