Suffolk housebuilder David Wilson Homes has arranged a special Christmas-themed storytelling session at Stratford St Mary Primary School in Strickmere, near Colchester.
The school – located close to the housebuilder’s Constable Gardens development in East Bergholt – received an hour of captivating tales from renowned storyteller Su Squire, known by the stage name of Tilly the Talespinner. Tilly, with her flair for storytelling, transported the eager young audience on a delightful journey through various winter wonders during an assembly.
The repertoire of stories on the day included a cherished Scandinavian tale featuring a bear and some comically unwelcome trolls who make an appearance during Christmas. Additionally, Tilly shared stories about the intriguing origins of Christmas stockings and other enchanting tales with a wintery feel.
The overarching narrative for each of these stories aimed to emphasise the importance of inspiring and educating one another and understanding the true spirit of the festive season. This was encompassed by a tale about Father Christmas’ sleigh encountering a storm, leading to a loss of presents. In a heartwarming twist, everyone was gifted a story to share instead.
Tilly the Talespinner said: “I had so much fun spinning tales with the children and staff at Stratford St Mary Primary School.
“It was an absolute delight to see them go from being a bit shy and nervous when they first came into the hall, to joining in with heaps of excitement and enthusiasm as the stories unfolded. There was a real feeling of Christmas magic and it certainly got me in the mood for the festive season!”
Miss Jones, Teacher at Stratford St Mary Primary School said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the storytelling session.
“They were transfixed by the tales which were not only fun, but also helped develop their story language. The magical interactive session ignited their imagination to create their own stories back in the classroom.
“Thank you, Tilly. Please come again!” Tom Wright, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “We are delighted to have been able to support Stratford St Mary Primary School with a festive storytelling session.
“It’s heartening to hear of the joy on the faces of the children, and we hope that this initiative has sparked their curiosity and love for learning.”
