True Blue Bay in Grenada has picked up two awards in recognition of the boutique resort's initiatives in sustainability and employing differently-abled persons.
True Blue Bay won in the Environmental Sustainability category of the Caribbean Hotel Industry Exchange Forum (CHIEF) 2023 Awards while the Grenada National Council of the Disabled has recognised the hotel for employing differently-able persons. The CHIEF award recognises True Blue Bay's dedication to environmental sustainability and demonstrating leadership in eco-friendly practices within the hospitality sector.
Of particular note were the hotel's ground-breaking initiatives such as a biogas digester project in partnership with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology University in Sweden, the expansion of rainwater collection systems and a commitment to achieving zero plastic waste within two years. The award from the Grenada National Council of the Disabled recognises True Blue Bay for employing differently abled persons.
Russ Fielden commented: “This is an unexpected award. It's a delight to see how differently abled people bring added benefits to the teams they work with, encouraging tolerance and awareness among staff and guests alike.”
The Fielden family, owners of True Blue Bay Boutique Resort, have been passionate advocates for environmental sustainability since acquiring the hotel 25 years ago. Their vision was to create a haven that offered unique experiences while also minimising its impact on the environment and contributing positively to the local community.
Leading this eco-conscious charge is Russ Fielden, whose efforts have not only reduced the resort's environmental footprint but have also created educational opportunities and economic growth within the local community. However, as Russ says: “Grenada and particularly the tourism sector have to strive hard to reach the goal of becoming truly sustainable in as short a time as possibly.
“True Blue Bay is just a small part of a much larger initiative to make Grenada carbon neutral.”
